The amount of public dollars going toward solar is a major debate. But what about private money that, in theory, should flow naturally?

A look at the sort of private money going toward the solar industry shows that there are indeed people willing to invest. Investment in clean technology nationally has been increasing and totaled $942 million in the second quarter, out of $3.9 billion in total investments in technology, according to the MoneyTree report by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association, based on data from Thomson Reuters. About 12 percent of clean tech was solar.
